The CourtWood Inn property is located 1.5 miles from Main Street (the hub of activity) in unique and memorable Murphys, CA, which is registered as California Historical Landmark #275, and named “One of the Top 10 coolest small towns in America” by Frommers. Murphys has a number of excellent restaurants, galleries, gift shops, and wine tasting rooms.
Murphys, the “Queen of the Sierras,” is in the heart of the Gold Rush country in the Sierra Nevada foothills, just a 1-hour drive from the Central Valley, 2 hours from Sacramento, 3 hours from San Francisco; 2 1/2 hours from Yosemite Valley and 2 1/2 hours from Lake Tahoe (in non-snow months).
Driving Directions from Highway 4:
When you get to Murphys going east on Highway 4, follow the sign to the Business District by turning left at the fire station and then a quick right to get onto Main Street. When you come to the stop sign, go straight. (If you come to a Shell station on your right, turn left at the stoplight and then bear left. Go one block to the stop sign. Turn right onto Main St.) Go the short way through our cute little town until you come to the fork in the road at the end of Main and see Val du Vino Winery on the right. Keep going straight and continue up the hill on French Gulch Road for 1 mile. Turn right at the small blue and yellow hut onto St. Johns. Follow the 2-lane very bumpy gravel road for 1/4 mile (past Lockhart, the first left) to Ponderosa Way (the second left) and bear left. Continue for 1/3 mile until you see two large white-water tanks on the left and the driveway to Courtwood Inn, the log home on the left at 2081 Ponderosa Way. Park at one of the numbered tennis balls painted on the wall.
