The Festival
Take in the picturesque scenery of the surrounding Sierra Foothills while sipping on some of the best vino in the region. You do not have to buy a ticket for this event—just purchase a commemorative glass. You can buy the glasses in advance online or at the Wine Information Center on the day of the event.
Throughout the course of Murphys Presidents’ Weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to taste wine at over 22 local wineries and tasting rooms. Locals suggest opting for both days as it can be difficult to visit every winery in a single day—and you’re going to want a taste of them all!

The Wine
With a rapidly growing wine scene, Calaveras County has been dubbed a younger Napa Valley, producing more than three dozen types of grapes. At the center of the county, Murphys is home to a majority of the wineries, but the community continues to grow as more makers move to the area.
Some of the varietals that you can expect to find at Murphys Presidents’ Weekend include the Spanish and Italian varietals that the foothills have become known for—Barbera, Tempranillo—as well as the French Mourvedre and Grenache. And of course, there will also be copious amounts of fantastic Zinfandels and Cabernets.
