3 Fun Things to Do in Angels Camp
1. Visit the Angels Camp City Museum
Head over to the Angels Camp City Museum to learn about the golden history of Angels Camp and the Mother Lode Region—literally! Angels Camp and the surrounding Mother Lode played a large part in the California Gold Rush, due to the large quantities of gold present.
Exhibits you will discover here contain one of the largest collections of carriages and wagons in the nation and a historical park filled with extensive indoor and outdoor exhibits. This includes an exhibit about Mark Twain, who stayed in Angels Camp for a (while where he found inspiration for “The Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”—his first successful short story). You can also try your hand at panning for gold!
2. Attend the Calaveras County Fair & Frog Jumping Jubilee
If you are searching for upcoming events in Angels Camp, mark your calendar for the oldest continually operating county fair in California: the Calaveras County Fair & Frog Jumping Jubilee! The Calaveras County Fair features fair mainstays and infuses them with the history and culture of Angels Camp to create an event that draws tens of thousands of people each May. One of the most popular events at the fair is the Frog Jump Jubilee, which recreates Mark Twain’s short story. If you’re a big fan of Mark Twain, come back in October for the Mark Twain Wild West Fest.
3. Stroll Through Downtown Angels Camp
Walk down historic Main Street, and you will find a collection of charming boutique shops offering everything from Western-style apparel to modern fashion and art galleries to stores selling minerals and rocks.
