When To Find Wildflowers
Some of the best wildflower blooms are found at lower elevations. These blossoms will begin to appear in mid-February and last through mid-April. At higher elevations (areas above 5000 feet), you will typically find flowers between June and July.
Where To Find Wildflowers
There are a plethora of top-notch spots to find Northern California wildflowers. From state parks to national parks to scenic lakes and hiking trails, some of our favorite locations near Courtwood Inn include:
New Melones Lake
New Melones Lake is a picturesque lake nestled along the Stanislaus River. It’s one of the best areas for hiking, kayaking, picnicking, and fishing. For one-of-a-kind views, we recommend exploring the Table Mountain trail. This moderate hike leads you up to a volcanic plateau overlooking the lake and beyond. Along the trail, you’ll find golden buttercups and phacelia.
Murphys
Murphys is located in Calaveras County between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park. The area is filled with goldrush history, award-winning wineries, and outstanding scenery. We’re proud to call this area home and love to show it off during wildflower season. When you stay with us, head out for a scenic drive, and you’re sure to see gorgeous blossoms, including California poppies, shooting stars, wild iris, and more. One of our favorite scenic road trips is the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway, which can have up to seven months of blooming wildflowers!
Ironstone Vineyards
One of our favorite wineries in the area is Ironstone Vineyards. Aside from its five-star wine and fun-filled events, this winery is known for its daffodil gardens in the spring. Their annual garden display features over 300,000 daffodils, tulips, and other flowers and over 100 different species of bulbs. Although some of these flowers are planted, that doesn’t take away from the dazzling beauty.
