All About the Ebbett’s Pass Scenic Byway
What Is the Ebbett’s Pass Scenic Byway?
This scenic drive is known as one of the most rural, untamed, and intimate trans-Sierra routes. It begins in the heart of the Sierra Nevada mountains and continues for 61 miles through Highways 4 and 89. As Ebbett’s Pass continues, it finds Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park as its neighbors. It begins in the town of Arnold in Calaveras County and ends in Markleeville in Alpine County.
Getting to the Scenic Byway
When you stay at Courtwood Inn in Murphys, CA, you’re only an 18-minute drive from Arnold. You’ll begin by heading east on Main Street toward Scott Street. Then turn left only Big Trees Road. From there, turn left onto CA-4 East and continue for a little over 11 miles. When you arrive in Arnold, you can hop onto Highway 4 and head north.
Attractions Along Ebbett’s Pass
As you drive along this unbelievable route, you will see an array of natural wonders. Ancient volcanic peaks, deep river canyons, Giant Sequoia trees, sparkling alpine lakes, and granite outcroppings are just some of the magical sights.
There are also numerous recreational opportunities along Ebbett’s Pass. Along the route, you can stop at Calaveras Big Trees State Park, Grover Hot Springs State Park, and Stanislaus National Forest. Get out and explore the parks and embark on some breathtaking hiking trails. Towards the north end of the byway, you can go fishing in the east fork of the Carson River or cross-country skiing in Bear Valley.
