Walk the Streets
Each year, this street festival has the charming background of Murphys, CA. Our mountainside haven was once a gold mining town with close ties to the nearby caves and mountains, and we preserve this 19th-century allure through our downtown buildings and annual festivals. A local’s favorite, the Murphys Christmas Parade closes our Main Street from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the first Friday of December and provides you with the opportunity to stroll down our quaint avenue at your own pace with the aromas of chestnuts roasting on an open fire at the Spice Tin filling the air. It’s also the perfect time to peruse the boutiques, eateries, and heated wine tasting rooms!
Nothing makes the Murphys Christmas Parade so enchanting and wonderful quite like the many events happening. To kick off the festivities, watch the lively parade fill Main Street with the sounds of holiday cheer as well as showcase local businesses and their unique floats. And, be on the lookout for the caravan of brightly colored golf carts riding down the street, too! Once the parade ends, continue the excitement of the holidays by looking at the well-lit Christmas trees and photographing our picturesque downtown. You don’t want to miss out on this wonderful celebration!
What You Can Hear
As you meander through our downtown, you’ll be delighted by the harmonious sounds of carols to complement the frosty air of Calaveras County. Each year, the Murphys Congregational Church composes the ensemble of carolers and offers treats at their Church Street location. You’ll also hear the delightful sounds of string instruments from musicians as they perform on the sidewalks. If you want to participate, get your lighted wand (as a replacement for a candle) and sing the carols down Main Street!
